Healing through WhatsApp

Carolina lives in Texas, having moved there from Argentina twenty ago. What was unique about her sessions with Javier was that they happened over WhatsApp voice calls. As Javier explains, ‘I always have a visual contact to calibrate the impact of the session as we go. In this case I only had her voice which was tremendously moving and empowering.’

Carolina’s struggles were born out of a difficult relationship. Her marriage to a narcissist saw her ‘go through hell. In the process I lost my self worth, my dignity and my self respect.’

Carolina reached out for help because she didn’t want to go through something like that again. It was her first time trying hypnotherapy and she wasn’t sure what to expect – especially as they would be working remotely.

In her session she confided in Javier and worked through her issues. They spoke on the phone, going through the usual hypnotherapy process of working with the subconscious and challenging underlying beliefs.

It wasn’t easy, explains Carolina, but she does believe that it had huge benefits, and would recommend Javier to anyone.

‘It was a painful experience but worth it. He is kind, understanding, and very professional. He helped me to start loving myself again and believe that I didn’t do anything wrong. I will always be grateful to him… and I think he has the ability to help many more!’

Finding freedom from food

Anna was concerned about her relationship with food. A friend of hers saw Javier to help her lose weight, and was successful – something that appealed to Anna. But she knew that weight and food were only the symptom, and that underneath there was lots of work to be done. ‘I was aware that I was ‘stuck’ with lots of other issues that were far more important.’ she says. ‘I hoped hypnotherapy would be able to access the parts of my self I was in denial about, the stuff that was too painful to deal with.’

Troubled by negative thoughts, worries and a sense of hopelessness, Anna had tried multiple types of therapy over the years. They gave her a sense of self awareness and honesty, that she brought to her sessions with Javier.

‘Javier was non judgemental and kind. He enabled me to think and feel positively about myself. The focus on visual descriptions was massively important and has accessed more parts of my brain than talking therapy was able to do.’

Javier always keeps in touch after the therapy, sends recordings, and supports his clients. This is something that Anna was very grateful for. ‘He really seemed to care how I was getting on. He sent me additional recordings when necessary. I felt like he was on my side throughout which was the support I needed whilst climbing up the hill of challenges I felt were against me.’

The difference to Anna has been profound. ‘I feel completely different. I feel more authentically me. I do not feel like a victim of bad luck or negative circumstances in the same way, though I acknowledge that things have been hard. When I am in a difficult situation I can now see that it is simply that and I never feel things are hopeless. I feel sure and secure in my body and know I do not have to solve a challenge in order to get through it.’

These feelings have had a big impact on Anna. She no longer worries and frets over things that she can’t control. And her weight has changed, as she no longer looks to food as a solution.  She explains that ‘the emotional weight that bore down on every decision in my life has reduced such a lot so I can now focus on key decisions and issues rather than fretting over everything. I am simply more secure, less anxious and happier in my day to day life because of Javier.’

Hypnotherapy is a two-way process. Each client is unique and is treated as such. Clients differ greatly in their response to hypnosis. It is a learned skill. Therefore, each client may achieve a different level of success in attaining their goal. Therapies such as Hypnotherapy, CBT and NLP all rely on commitment and motivation from both the therapist and the client to get the best results. Part of the progress occurs in the consulting room and part is achieved through cognitive reflection or homework.

In common with other therapies it, and therefore I, cannot and do not offer a 100% success rate, or guarantee success. As the client, when you agree to undertake the sessions, you also agree to engage with the process. It is through this commitment in partnership that you will see the best results.

The Power of Stories 10 Aug 2017
The Power of Stories

Stories are great for understanding the world, gaining perspective, and informing yourself. It helps you take on different points of view, create ideas and solutions, contextualise ideas and understand feelings. What stories do you tell yourself? And your children?

This summer why not read to your children. Whether it’s before bed, over the breakfast table, or whilst out for a walk, tell them a story. This isn’t a one way reading though.Take this opportunity to have a conversation with yourchildren. Be a model and start sharing what the story means to you. Then listen to what it means to them. They will probably have a different perspective to you. That’s great – we are all individuals after all.

Whether reading, writing, or listening, the important part of all of this is the thinking and emotions that you generate after you leave the page. If a tiny fraction of thought, feeling, inspiration stays with you…. the story has done well. That particle of inspiration will grow inside you and help you understand you and your surroundings just a little bit better.
